The German airline Lufthansa has to purchase aircraft from Airbus for 5 billion euros. The German government sets this as a requirement in the negotiations for a rescue package for the ailing society. As a result, the conversations have reached an impasse.

According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt , it is financially impossible for Lufthansa to purchase all ordered aircraft within the agreed term of three to four years. Society has run into such grave problems due to the corona crisis that such an expense could be the blow.

It was actually intended that there would be an agreement for support from the German government on Friday to submit to the Lufthansa supervisory board. Negotiations are now continuing over the weekend.

Society and government are talking about a support package of 9 billion euros, partly in the form of a loan.
