Huawei released a media statement on May 18 regarding the US Department of Commerce's modification of direct product rules against Huawei.

Huawei strongly opposes the U.S. Department of Commerce ’s direct product rule modification only for Huawei. Since it was unreasonably included in the list of entities by the U.S. government on May 16, 2019, Huawei has always been committed to complying with applicable laws and regulations and fulfilling its contractual obligations with customers and suppliers, despite the unsustainable availability of a large number of industrial technology elements. Survive and strive to move forward.

However, in order to further curb the development of Huawei, the US government ignored the concerns of many industry associations and companies, and expanded and revised the direct product rules without a bottom line. The revised rules are arrogant and destructive. Under this rule, the expansion, maintenance, and continuous operation of hundreds of billions of dollars of networks built by Huawei products in more than 170 countries around the world will be affected, as will the information and communication of more than 3 billion people using Huawei products and services. In order to suppress the advanced enterprises of other countries, the US government ignores the rights and interests of Huawei's global customers and consumers, which is in contradiction with the rhetoric that it has always advocated for protecting cyber security.

This rule change affects not only a Huawei company, but also a serious impact on related industries around the world. In the long run, the trust foundation for global cooperation in industries such as chips will be destroyed, and conflicts and losses within the industry will be further intensified. The United States uses its own technological advantages to suppress other countries' enterprises, which will definitely weaken the confidence of other countries' enterprises in using American technology elements, and ultimately hurt the United States' own interests.

Huawei is conducting a comprehensive evaluation of this incident, and it is expected that our business will inevitably be affected. We will do our best to find solutions, and hope that customers and suppliers will work with Huawei to eliminate the adverse effects of this discriminatory rule.
