The Dubai Economy revealed that the total number of trademark files registered by the commercial control and consumer protection sector, at the end of the first quarter of 2020, amounted to 5300 files, a growth of 14% compared to the end of the same period in 2019.

The number of complaints of infringement of the intellectual property rights of trademarks reached 95 complaints, a decrease of 34% compared to the same period in 2019, while the number of registered commercial agency files reached 53 files, a growth of 121%, and the number of complaints of infringement on commercial agencies decreased by 71% , After only two complaints were recorded.

According to the statement, American brands are still the largest percentage of files registered in the intellectual property portal since its inception, as they numbered 1610 files, followed by Emirati brands with 790 files, then German marks 375 files, French marks 329 files, and British marks 298 files.

The Swiss marks topped the rise in the registration of new brands in the intellectual property portal with an increase of 50%, compared to the same period last year, followed by the British Virgin Islands signs with an increase of 32%, then the Emirati brands 22%, the French brands 20%, then German marks 17%.

Mohamed Ali Rashid Lootah, Executive Director of Commercial Control and Consumer Protection of Dubai’s Economy, said that the results indicate the important and vital role of Dubai’s economy in protecting investor rights, which enhances the confidence of the business community and enhances the economic environment in the emirate.

He pointed out that the results of the rise in the files of commercial agencies indicate the attractiveness of the investment emirate, through attracting the best brands from around the world, as it reflects the growing role of the retail sector in the emirate at the global level, and constantly enhancing its position.
