  May 17 is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. The theme for 2020 is "Connectivity Goal 2030: Using ICT to promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals". The 2020 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Conference hosted by the China Communications Society was held online on the same day.

  According to Chen Zhaoxiong, China's network facilities are accelerating to a high-speed ubiquitous evolution. Up to now, the penetration rate of optical fiber users has reached 93%, and the number of 4G users has reached 1.28 billion, ranking first in the world. The commercialization of 5G has been accelerated, and more than 200,000 5G base stations have been opened.

  Basic telecom operators also announced the latest 5G progress at the conference. As of the end of April 2020, China Mobile had nearly 140,000 5G base stations, and the scale will exceed 300,000 by the end of the year.

  Gao Tongqing, deputy general manager of China Mobile, introduced that in 2020, China Mobile will achieve 5G network coverage in cities above the city level in the country, with a net increase of 70 million 5G package customers; strive to promote 5G SA (independent networking) national commercial; gather 14 vertical industries, Create hundreds of 5G demonstration applications with industry influence and replication.

  China Telecom and China Unicom jointly build a shared 5G network, speed up the construction of 5G networks, and are committed to building a 5G boutique network with wider coverage, faster speed, lower cost and better experience. The 5G base stations that have been opened by both parties include the joint construction of shared base stations.

  Liu Guiqing, deputy general manager of China Telecom, said that China Telecom has already opened more than 100,000 5G base stations. China Telecom has always adhered to the lead of SA independent networking. At the end of last year, it achieved the world's first commercial launch of 5G independent networking in Shenzhen.

  Fan Yunjun, deputy general manager of China Unicom, said that as of April, a total of 100,000 5G base stations have been opened, and 5G has been opened for joint construction and sharing in 31 provinces across the country, and 5G has been officially commercialized in more than 50 cities. China Unicom and China Telecom jointly build and share, and strive to complete the construction of 250,000 base stations nationwide by 2020.

  Zeng Qingjun, deputy general manager of China Radio and Television, said that China Radio and Television's 5G network has decided to adopt the SA model and a minimalist architecture solution, and work with partners to accelerate the construction of radio and television 5G networks, and strive to basically achieve national coverage of radio and television 5G by the end of 2021.
