West Bank: Warnings Raise Against Israel's Annexation Plan

Will Israel be able to annex parts of the West Bank from July? The measure is mentioned in the government agreement signed between Benyamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz. It builds on the plan presented by Donald Trump last January to try to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But the warnings are increasing. This Friday, the King of Jordan warned of a possible "conflict". And even the American ally of Israel seems to distance itself.

For King Abdullah of Jordan, the basic premise is clear: " The two-state solution is the only way forward ." However, specifies the sovereign in an interview granted to the German magazine Der Spiegel this Friday, an annexation by Israel of several swathes of the West Bank would inevitably lead to a solution to a State and thus to " more chaos and more extremism in the region "

But his warning to the Israeli government is much more direct. An annexation would result in " a massive conflict " with Jordan, he warns, while his country is one of the two Arab states to have signed a peace treaty with Israel. And while affirming “ not wanting to threaten ”, he said “  considering  ” denouncing the agreement signed with his neighbor.

Israel has so far received no public support for the annexation project. Even the United States, which developed the plan on which Benyamin Netanyahu is based, did not give "green light" to the annexation. And this Friday, the State Department said it wanted "to bring all the parties back to the negotiating table on the basis of the peace plan ". A declaration which does not go in the direction of an annexation from the month of July.
