The Government has partially yielded to the claim of the large stores and distribution areas and will now allow in the so-called Phase 1 of the de-escalation to open 400 square meters of the total installation. This has been announced by the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, in what constitutes, at least, the third version on what Inditex, Mango, Cortefiel or other affected companies that they cannot open so far can do, except by appointment, despite ensure that they took comprehensive security measures for customers and workers.

In the Ministerial Order of May 9, Illa closed the possibility of opening any store with a surface area greater than 400 square meters , although she promised to open that part of her establishment. In this way, it changed its original guide announced at the end of April, which did not put a surface limitation as long as it complied with safety rules.

CEOE President Antonio Garamendi expressly asked the Government to allow these large stores , which employ thousands of workers, to open at least part of the premises and the president of the National Association of Large Distribution Companies has also battled it. (Anged), Alfonso Merry del Val. He maintains that they should open without surface limitation once security is guaranteed, but the new Illa ministerial order constitutes an advance.

Autonomous presidents such as the one of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, also asked Pedro Sánchez last Sunday to unlock the closure of these large establishments as a measure of economic reactivation.

The Minister of Health has also announced another measure of commercial flexibility and that is that stores of less than 400 square meters will be able to open even in phase zero without an appointment as until now.
