Samsung Group's Vice Chairman Jae-yong Lee and Senior Vice President Hyundai Motor Group's Jung-sun Jung join hands to foster the electric vehicle industry.

According to the industry, Hyundai Motor Group and Samsung executives visit the Samsung SDI Cheonan site today (13th) and exchange opinions on the current status and direction of the development of all-solid-state batteries, which are batteries for next-generation electric vehicles.

In the Hyundai Motor Group, senior vice-president Jung Eui-sun, President Albert Wiermann of Hyundai and Kia R & D Headquarters, and President Servo Shin, product manager, will visit the site.

Samsung Group's vice chairman, Jae-Yong Lee, Samsung Electronics, CEO Young-Hyun Jeon and CEO Sung-Woo Hwang of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, are expected to meet the management of Hyundai Motor Group.

Samsung SDI Cheonan Plant is a factory that specializes in producing small and automotive batteries.

Hyundai Motor Group's executives will discuss the global all-solid-battery technology trends and Samsung's all-solid-battery development status from executives in charge of Samsung SDI and Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology at the executive meeting room in Jeon-dong, and then share their opinions on mutual interests.

The executives of both companies will also visit the Samsung SDI Cheonan Plant's advanced battery development site for electric vehicles.

Samsung Electronics recently announced an all-solid-state battery innovation with a charging range of 800 km.

The all-solid-state battery, which is attracting attention as the next-generation battery, is a battery that replaces the electrolyte between the battery anode and the cathode from a liquid to a solid, and is characterized by realizing a large capacity and increasing safety compared to the existing lithium-ion battery.

This is the first time that the two leaders of both groups meet for business purposes.

So far, I have had a seat at a business meeting, but I have never met alone.

In particular, there was no precedent by senior vice-president Jung Eui-sun visiting Samsung.

Currently, LG Chem's battery is used for Hyundai Motorized models, and SK Innovation's battery is mainly used for Kia Motorized vehicles.

Hyundai and Kia Motors selected SK Innovation as the primary supplier of batteries for pure electric vehicles to be mass-produced early next year.

It is about 500,000 trillion won in 5 years, which is 10 trillion won.

Hyundai Kia Motors said it plans to order three additional batteries for the pure electric vehicle.

Hyundai and Kia Motors developed 'E-GMP' as a platform dedicated to electric vehicles for mass production of pure electric vehicles.

E-GMP can improve the space efficiency by supplementing the disadvantages of the existing platform and utilizing the characteristics of electric vehicles.

E-GMP will be installed on the mid-sized crossover vehicle (CUV) models such as Hyundai's NE (development code name) and Kia's CV (development code name).

Electric vehicles are an industry that the government fosters with the 'Korean New Deal'.

President Moon Jae-in said in a special speech to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of his inauguration, he will cultivate three new growth industries such as system semiconductors, bio-health, and future cars more powerfully to create future food.

The government's representative companies are actively responding to the government's 'Korean New Deal' policy.

An official from Hyundai Motor Group said, “Hyundai · Kia Motors is researching related technologies to realize optimized battery performance required for the world's highest-performance electric vehicles.” This visit will exchange opinions on the direction of next-generation battery technology and share the current status of new technologies. "It's a dimension to do."

An official from Samsung Group said, "Samsung's all-solid-state battery is one of the next generation of battery technology that is structurally hard and stable." We look forward to expanding cooperation between the two companies to innovate in the field of mobility.
