Mr. Kiko Shimizu, who is the manager of the Nagoya branch, became the new BOJ director on the 11th. This is the first time for a woman to be a board member at the BOJ.

Shimizu is 55 years old from Tokyo.

He joined the Bank of Japan in 1987 and has been the manager of the Takamatsu branch and the general manager of Europe before becoming the general manager of Nagoya.

The BOJ's directors are executive posts that coordinate the various departments, such as the Planning Bureau and the Financial Institutions Department, to assist the president and vice president, and this is the first time a woman has taken office.

Mr. Shimizu will continue to be the head of the Nagoya branch for the time being after becoming a director.
