The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said that the telecom service providers in the country, namely Etisalat and Du, should calculate the early termination fees for telecommunications services contracts, for a monthly fee of only one month, up to a maximum of 1,000 dirhams.

The authority indicated to "Emirates Today" that its decision means that the subscriber is obligated to pay 1000 dirhams only as a maximum to terminate the contract for telecommunications services early, even if the rent of one month exceeds 1000 dirhams.

The commission added that these amendments come within the framework of enhancing the quality of communication services and ensuring that these services reach the various social classes on satisfactory terms, as well as applying the best global standards regarding services provided by licensees in the state and giving more freedom and flexibility to users in choosing the services that they want.

The «Telecommunications Regulation» indicated that the decision also comes in the context of standardizing all fees for termination of service contracts that require payment of termination fees, which makes it easier for customers to calculate the costs of services that they wish to use.

It is noteworthy that the authority recently issued a decision requiring consumers who are forced to early termination of contracts for communications with the companies "Etisalat" and "du" to pay a fee equivalent to the rent of one month only, starting from the first of last January without specifying a financial ceiling or a specific amount The maximum amount paid by the customer.

Previously, the contract termination fee was one month's rent multiplied by the number of months remaining to terminate the contract.
