From our correspondent in Tehran,

The government has decided to reopen mosques in 132 provincial towns located in white areas or areas with little risk. In these cities, Friday prayer can be organized again. Similarly, schools will be reopened in the white zones from May 6.

In contrast, in Tehran, defined as one of the country's red zones, the mosques will remain closed and there will not be the traditional anti-Israeli demonstration, organized every year on the last Friday of the month of Ramadan.

We decided today to reopen the mosques ...

According to official figures, the slowdown in the epidemic has been very marked for a week. There have been only 47 deaths in the past 24 hours and less than 1,000 people infected. Some politicians and medical experts question these figures.

Despite these deconfinement measures, the authorities continue to appeal to the population to respect social distancing. Which seems very difficult in Tehran with its eight million inhabitants and in the big provincial cities.

The government has made it mandatory to wear a mask in the metro and on public transport.
