Dubai Customs Department confirmed that it is working to play its vital role in supporting the national economy, by facing the economic repercussions of the global pandemic "Corona", by facilitating the legitimate trade movement.
The department said in a statement yesterday that the amount of sea and air freight goods in the marine customs centers and air cargo centers of Dubai Customs during the first quarter of 2020 amounted to about 24.314 million tons.
"Dubai Customs" added that customs inspection officers are advancing to the first line of defense to protect the homeland and preserve the health, safety and security of society in the current stage, in which the entire world is witnessing an outbreak of the "Corona" epidemic, and they are working hard to facilitate the legitimate trade movement, to consolidate Dubai's global role In the service of humanity from an advanced position on the international trade map, to link markets in various countries of the world with high efficiency, and to protect global supply and distribution chains.
She emphasized that it had provided customs inspection officers with all the equipment that would protect them from the risks of the Corona epidemic, including protective clothing, gloves, and masks.
Trade facilitation
"The importance of the vital role played by Dubai Customs in protecting society and facilitating trade in global crises is increasing, especially the current health crisis, with the spread of the (Corona) epidemic at the global level," said Dr. Abdullah Bosnad, Executive Director of the Customs Inspection Sector.
He stressed seeking to secure supply and distribution chains for food and other goods locally, regionally and globally, as Dubai carries out major tasks in this regard, by continuing to link international markets by transporting goods between them, using the ports, airports, free zones and land routes in the emirate, and importing goods to Domestic markets and re-exports to regional and international markets.
He stressed that "Dubai Customs" is keen to actively participate in the efforts to stimulate economic activity, through the incentive packages announced by the leadership.
Governmental facilities
He continued: “The Department has embarked on the implementation of the initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to return 20% of the customs tariff paid for imported goods that are sold locally, and in implementation of this initiative, 1 percentage is currently being refunded % Of the customs tariff fees for the goods that are sold in the local market of the state, which are subject to customs tariff fees at a rate of 5%, whose customs declaration is recorded in the import status during the period from March 15 to June 30 next ».
He pointed to the exemption of commercial, traditional and wooden vessels registered locally in the country from fees for mooring services for incoming and outgoing ships, direct and indirect loading fees in the Dubai Creek and Al Hamriyah Port during the same period, in addition to canceling the bank or cash guarantee required for the practice of customs clearance activity specified in the amount of 50 thousand AED, with the refund of bank and cash guarantees provided by the existing customs clearance companies.
