Supermarket chains have started selling face masks in their stores this week. The peak in demand is so high that Dia, in particular, has sold half a million in less than six hours and stocks have been depleted, according to sources close to the chain.

This Thursday they began to be sold at nine in the morning through the online channel (also through Glovo and Amazon Prime Now) with delivery from 500 stores. Six hours later the 500,000 face masks that had been put up for sale were sold out.

"Stocks are depleted and we are trying to replace product as soon as possible, as we see that demand is very high," they point out.

They had a limitation of one box for each order (in boxes of 50 units for 30 euros VAT included, that is to say at 0.60 euros per unit), to avoid speculation, but, even so, the sale "has exceeded expectations" .

Carrefour and Lidl also offer this product in their stores from this week. In this way, they aim to respond to the current peak in demand for this coronavirus protection product.

Lidl sells them since Tuesday, in a pack of 50 units at a price of 29.99, at 0.60 a unit. Carrefour markets them in boxes of 10 units at a price of 8.90 euros, with no purchase limit.
