US stocks rose strongly, on Wednesday, in anticipation of an effective drug to treat Covid-19, which triggered a widespread rally and encouraged investors to ignore gloomy GDP data and words of caution from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 527.85 points, or 2.19 percent, to 24,629.4 points. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index increased by 76.17 points, or 2.66 percent, to record 2,393.56 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 306.98 points, or 3.57 percent, to 8,914.71 points.
