Coronavirus: Iran must anticipate the most pessimistic scenario, says Hassan Rohani

Iran must contemplate the most pessimistic scenario that the economic consequences of the coronavirus epidemic will be felt for months, if not a year, warned President Hassan Rohani on Saturday (April 25).

"  We have to plan for long-term production based on the pessimistic assumption that we could be confronted with this virus (...) for months,  " said the Iranian head of state, during a meeting with business leaders, broadcast live on public television.

"  Perhaps we could (face the virus) until the end of the year, we don't know  ," he added, referring to the Iranian calendar year ending in March. 2021.

Decrease from peak of epidemic

According to the latest official report communicated by the Iranian health authorities, the COVID-19 epidemic killed 5,650 people out of 89,328 cases of contamination. More than three thousand people are in serious condition.

Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi said the daily death toll has dropped by around 70% from the peak of the epidemic, while the number of people hospitalized has dropped by about half.
