The de-escalation in the tourism sector will not be segmented by communities. There will not be 17 reopens , but it will be the Government that centralizes the protocol of return to activity. This was transmitted today by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel, to the autonomous communities in an extraordinary meeting of the Tourism Sector Commission.

" Security is going to be fundamental in the new normality that awaits us. There is no certainty about when we will be able to restart the activity, but we must do it in safe sanitary conditions for those who visit us and for the workers and residents of the environment," Oliver said.

The tourism sector, the engine of our economy and which accounts for 13% of GDP, is experiencing an unprecedented crisis. The hotels, with few exceptions, are closed, and also all the hotel, beach and leisure activities linked to tourism. The sector calculates losses (in the worst case scenario) of up to 124,000 million euros if the activity is restarted at the end of the year according to the calculations of the Alliance for Tourism Excellence, Exceltur.

Waiting to know when the activity can begin gradually, the communities and the Ministry led by Reyes Maroto have already agreed that this exit will be under a common protocol , that the communities will not go free in this process.

This is something that a part of the sector had suggested: that, for example, communities such as the Canary Islands or the Balearic Islands , with a low rate of infection and highly dependent on tourism, could recover their activity earlier.

In the elaboration of this common protocol coordinated with the Government "the requirements that each subsector or tourist activity must meet in terms of hygiene and safety will be collected ."

As Minister Reyes Maroto has already stated on several occasions, this departure will be carried out in two stages : first, it will try to stimulate national tourism and then, there will be a campaign for the international tourist, focusing on security. Because, as Exceltur pointed out in its latest analysis of the impact of the pandemic in the sector, "Spain right now is not exactly a reliable destination."
