26% decrease in automobile production in Thailand Impact of expansion of new corona 17:05 April 23

Compared to the same month last year, cars manufactured last month in Thailand, the largest automobile producer in Southeast Asia where Japanese manufacturers are expanding, have suffered from global demand slump due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection. A significant decrease of 26%.

According to the Thai Federation of Industry announcement, the number of cars manufactured in Thailand last month was 146,812, a significant decrease of 26.1% compared to the same month last year.

This is due to a decline in domestic and overseas production due to sluggish demand for new vehicles worldwide due to the spread of new coronavirus infections.

Domestic sales also fell 41.7% to 60,105 units, and exports also fell 23.7% to 89,795 units, both of which were greatly reduced.

Thailand is the largest automobile producing country in Southeast Asia, where Japanese manufacturers such as Toyota and Honda have production bases, and is also an export base to countries around the world.

However, the global demand slump due to the influence of the new coronavirus is becoming more serious, and Japanese manufacturers will be forced to suspend production from the beginning of this month.

At the press conference, Vice Chairman of the Thai Federation of Industry, Slaphorn said, "It will be more serious than during the Asian currency crisis. It will continue to be greatly affected by both exports and domestic sales."
