Among them, the three major 5G network construction projects of Chongqing Telecom, Chongqing Mobile, and Chongqing Unicom, which have started construction this time, have a total investment of 8.5 billion yuan, and will build a total of more than 30,000 5G base stations during the year to achieve full coverage of the main city 5G network. On April 9, the Chongqing Municipal Government organized a teleconference on 5G network construction work to deploy 5G construction tasks in 2020. Before June 30, Chongqing will build 30,000 5G base stations. Currently, Chongqing Telecom, Chongqing Mobile and Chongqing Unicom are accelerating the construction of 5G base stations.

Compared with 4G, 5G can achieve more efficient information transmission, faster signal response, and a larger number of terminal access, which has become the main grasp of new infrastructure construction in various regions. According to data from the Chongqing Municipal Communications Administration, about 10,000 5G base stations were built in Chongqing in 2019, accounting for 8% of the nation's 5G base stations that year. The construction of 5G networks has ranked among the nation's first echelon. Currently, there are 675,000 5G users in Chongqing.
"It takes about 30 to 50 days to build a 5G base station. The construction content includes the construction of a base station computer room, the deployment of transmission optical cables, the construction and transformation of light poles and power cabinets," the relevant person in charge of Chongqing Mobile told China with a light pole station as an example. In September 2019, China Telecom and China Unicom launched a joint construction and sharing of 5G networks, and the two sides cooperated to build a 5G access network nationwide. As of the end of 2019, Chongqing Telecom and Chongqing Unicom jointly built more than 4,000 5G base stations to achieve 5G coverage in key scenarios. According to the relevant person in charge of Chongqing Telecom, in 2020, the two sides will continue to deepen the joint construction and sharing. According to the construction area ratio of 6: 4, the construction of over 10,000 5G base stations will be completed in the first half of the year to achieve 20,000 externally available 5G networks. After the completion, it will achieve continuous outdoor coverage of 5G network in Chongqing's main urban area and districts, counties, and cities, and complete indoor coverage of 5G network in key scenarios such as airports, railway stations, and rail transportation.
In addition to speeding up the construction of 5G base stations, Chongqing Telecom, Chongqing Mobile, and Chongqing Unicom have actively promoted the incubation and application of 5G services since 2019 to enable 5G to better empower Chongqing's economic and social fields.
According to reports, the earliest 5G applications that entered the lives of Chongqing citizens were the 5G + VR immersive experience project and 5G ultra-high-definition live video.

Chongqing Telecom used the 5G network in the museum to live 4K ultra-high-definition live broadcast of the game. In the same month, Chongqing Unicom and Chongqing Satellite TV used the 5G network and live TV technology to present the 2019 Chongqing International Marathon. In July 2019, the Yangtze River Ropeway 5G + VR Super Sense Experience Project created by Chongqing Mobile and Chongqing Passenger Ropeway Company was put into operation. After wearing VR glasses in the Yangtze Ropeway Super Sense Experience Hall, visitors can follow the ropeway car "flying across the Yangtze River" and enjoy the beautiful scenery of "two rivers and four banks" in the air.
"Compared with the traditional live broadcast mode, 5G live broadcast does not require the provision of huge and high-cost microwave equipment and OB vans, nor does it need to rent expensive satellite transmission bandwidth." The relevant person in charge of Chongqing Telecom said that 5G can fully meet 4K, 8K, VR New media applications such as large bandwidth and high stability requirements for data transmission make the whole live broadcast ultra-high definition, zero distortion, and no jam. According to reports, currently Chongqing Telecom has applied 5G to various scenarios such as smart police, smart tourism, smart education and autonomous driving.
The relevant person in charge of Chongqing Unicom told CNN reporter that from 2020 to 2021, Chongqing Unicom will vigorously promote the application development of the 5G industry, focusing on the Internet of Vehicles, industrial Internet, intelligent manufacturing, smart cultural tourism, and smart parks.
According to reports, in Lijia Wisdom Park in Liangjiang New District of Chongqing, Chongqing Unicom has built 6 5G base stations. With the addition of 34 5G base stations built by Chongqing Mobile, Lijia Wisdom Park has achieved full 5G network coverage. At the same time, more than 10 5G applications related to social life, such as 5G video calls, 360VR live broadcasts, and immersive travel information maps, are set up in the 5G experience hall created by the park, Chongqing Mobile and Chongqing Unicom. It is reported that in 2020, Chongqing will carry out demonstration pilots to promote 5G network applications.
