AIIB provides Bangladesh with a US $ 404 million transportation infrastructure loan

Xinhua News Agency, Dhaka, April 6 (Reporter Liu Chuntao) The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank announced on the official website on the 6th that it will provide Bangladesh with a $ 404 million loan to support the country's improvement of transportation infrastructure. This is the first time the AIIB has independently provided Bangladesh with a loan in the transportation sector.

The AIIB stated that the above-mentioned credit funds are intended to help Bangladesh upgrade and rebuild the country ’s roads from Sylhet to Tamabili to improve safety and transportation efficiency. This highway has important strategic significance for regional connectivity including Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Myanmar and China.

According to reports, in addition to the credit funds, the Asian Investment Bank has provided a total of 898 million US dollars of financial support to Bangladesh.
