• LAST MINUTE: Information about the coronavirus

The Government will not extend the figure of the "recoverable paid leave" currently in force after Easter, as the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has advanced during an appearance in La Moncloa.

The measure, approved last weekend, forced to stop all economic activities considered non-essential. This forced the activity in entire sectors such as construction to stop in its tracks and caused enormous confusion among large industry.

The suspension of the activity also included the creation of a legal figure so that the employers paid the days of non-activity to their employees -as if it were a vacation- and then they could recover this time before the end of the year.

The measure will be in force until next Wednesday, April 9 and will link to the holidays of Holy Thursday and Friday. Sánchez has repeated on several occasions that the Government does not contemplate the extension of this figure and the scenario will once again be that of a state of alarm prior to the decree of economic hibernation.

This initial state prevented, for example, the opening of shops, hotels and other leisure establishments, which will have to remain closed until at least next April 26.

In any case, the Prime Minister has indicated that they will remain "with their antennas on" to analyze how the suspension of economic hibernation affects the chain of infections by the virus.
