The government wants to reassure worried taxpayers of the solutions that will be proposed to deal with the economic crisis following the current health crisis. The Minister of Public Accounts, Gérald Darmanin, assured Friday that the answer would not go through "a tax increase".

Deferral of payroll taxes

"Beware of false good solutions which in the past have contributed to increase unemployment and to destroy confidence", explained the minister in an interview to be published Saturday in the daily Ouest-France , after having launched this week "a call for national solidarity ”to businesses and individuals“ via a donation platform ”. This idea had revived the debate on the reinstatement of the wealth tax (ISF).

During the interview, the minister also announced that the deferral of payment of social security and tax charges, allowed to companies in March to resist during the coronavirus crisis, will also be possible in April. "As in March, companies experiencing financial difficulties related to the health crisis will have the opportunity to request an extension of their deadlines for direct taxes," he said.

In March, these measures, as well as the possibilities of payment delays or accelerated refunds of tax credits were "widely requested", representing the equivalent of around 6.9 billion euros. "These measures are intended for businesses and micro-enterprises that need them most," warned Gérald Darmanin, however.
