The minute of applause interrupts the confinement and, in many cases, the loneliness imposed by the confinement against the coronavirus. Greetings, screams, whistles, and chants bring citizens in contact with balconies and windows for a brief period. How is it really received?

One way to measure the impact of this custom, which is repeated every day at 8:00 p.m., is the decrease in the use of telecommunications networks, which for 60 seconds are replaced by traditional messages, loudly, by clapping or by means of complementary instruments such as pans, totally analog, in short.

According to different operators, consulted by EL MUNDO, the drop in the consumption of their networks is currently estimated at around 10%, compared to the records of the hour before and after this break.

Based on these figures, taken from March 15 in particular, there is a decrease of 8.7% in the agreed period for cheers.

The Telefónica network outlines a similar curve, with a sharp drop at 8:00 p.m. and the subsequent comeback. Company sources put the drop from applause at 10%. At Orange, they calculate it at 12%.

For these operators, the peak is usually reached late in the day , close to midnight. The use of voice, normal calls, usually finds its maximum at approximately noon, between 12.00 and 13.00.

Video, through streaming series or movies as well as in the field of games, is currently experiencing a boom in leisure, and this category accounts for more than half of data consumption, up to 80% on certain occasions.
