The total length of the Three Gorges Highway is 38 kilometers, and it has been managed in a completely closed manner since it was opened to traffic on October 1, 1996. During the construction of the Three Gorges Project, it was mainly responsible for the transportation of engineering materials and equipment. After the completion of the Three Gorges Project, it was the only channel on the land of the tourist attraction "Three Gorges Dam."
Since March 1, 2015, the Three Gorges Special Highway has been opened to the public, allowing passing vehicles to conduct registration and security inspections in accordance with regulations.
