The box office in 2019 enters the 20 billion mark box office growth rate catches up with the movie market

Newspaper (Reporter Zheng Na) Recently, Damai.com and Beacon Research Institute released "Reviewing the Spring, Looking forward to Spring-Insight Report on the Performance Industry in 2019". The report shows that the box office of Chinese performances in 2019 entered the 20 billion mark, an increase of 7.29% year-on-year, and the box office growth rate outpaced the movie market.

The report shows that the Chinese performance market has boomed in the past year, with theaters, concerts, and travel performances going hand in hand at the box office, forming a tripartite posture. The trend of "rejuvenation" of the market consumption structure is obvious, showing the characteristics of "low frequency, high unit price, and stable output". The "post-95" ticket purchasing ability continues to increase, becoming the main force of movie performance consumption. "Cross-city performances" have become the new normal, and consumption of coastal performances is heating up. Live performances have become a new trend for young people's entertainment and leisure. In terms of box office contribution, last year's tourism performance grew the fastest, up 9.58% year-on-year. Box office revenue was 7.379 billion yuan, which was directly approaching the theater's 8.403 billion yuan. The concert box office revenue was 4.259 billion yuan, an increase of 6.88% year-on-year.

The report also looks forward to the development trend of the performance industry in 2020. Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the pause button was pressed for offline performances, but innovative performance forms such as "Cloud Music Festival", "Cloud Concert" and "Cloud Theater" came into being, which directly led some users to switch from offline to online viewing. It is expected to form a new performance outlet. The report also pointed out that with the advent of the 5G era, digital virtual technologies such as VR and AR will break down the barriers of different art forms and audiences, and promote immersive performance upgrades. At the same time, cultural performances have also formed a new format in terms of space. As professional shopping malls, subways, and bookstores, a new performing arts space has begun to form. As of January this year, Shanghai has 50 new performing arts spaces, and the number will increase to 200 in the next three years.

The “Performance Market Insight Report 2019” is the first full-scale performance industry insight released by Damai.com and the Lighthouse Research Institute. The China Performance Industry Association provided industry guidance for this report.
