China News Network Yiyang, March 29th (correspondent Bowen Liaowen) "To support the construction of hometown, it is necessary to move as precisely as the Swiss clocks and watches." On the lively construction site, a thin figure is common, and orange farmers all affectionately call him "Professor Zhou".

"Professor Zhou" is named Zhou Yong. He is the executive dean of the School of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Central China Normal University, a professor and a doctoral supervisor, and a counselor of the Hubei Provincial Government. The outbreak of the new crown pneumonia outbreak, Wuhan closed the city, Zhou Yong stayed in his hometown of Minjiang, Hunan, and guided the villagers to implement citrus product reform at the citrus base in Xinwan Village, Xinwan Town.

"Doctors are all Professor Zhou's students! It's not wrong to listen to him." Villager Tang Guobin wiped the sweat on his face with a grin. According to Zhou Yong's guidance, he cleaned up the old tree roots in the ground again. Since spring planting this year, Zhou Yong has visited the product reform base in Xinwan more than ten times. Tang Guobin is already familiar with him. "This Svenwen professor has more serious and detailed requirements on farm work than an old farmer."

"The citrus product improvement project was promoted by Professor Zhou's first-hand planning. Don't say you want to listen to him, we all listen to him!" Tan Zhizhong, the director of the agricultural technology station in Xinwan Town, joked. "I know, I know! My 15 acres of orange orchards have all been changed, and they will have a bumper harvest three years later." Tang Zhibin nodded again and said with confidence.

Zhou Yong was born in Yangluo Town, Qijiang City. It has been 38 years since he was admitted to university in 1982. He has always been concerned about the development of his hometown. After being elected as the Standing Committee of the CPPCC in 2017, he used the director to make a strategic plan for “Strengthening the Four Major Measures to Plan for the Development of the Qujiang River”, and put forward efforts to build a dual engine of the Qijiang green industry and eco-tourism, and accelerate the promotion of one, two, three Industrial integration and development.

In 2018, the stagnant sales of citrus in Qijiang City caused the thinking of local agricultural technology experts. The fruit trees are aging, the varieties are not good, and there is an urgent need for improvement. After understanding the situation, Zhou Yong personally served as the team leader of the citrus product reform project. On January 18, 2020, he took a citrus expert from Huazhong Agricultural University to conduct field inspections, select excellent varieties, and propose cultivation schemes.

With the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia, Zhou Yong stayed in his hometown. "This gives me more time to observe closely and think about the development of my hometown." Zhou Yong said that recently he has started the modern aquatic planning of the Minjiang River, and has been connected with the academician and expert of Wuhan Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc. After the epidemic, they will come to Qijiang to examine the pulse of modern aquatic products.

Tan Zhizhong said that the citrus product reform project took more than two months from the suggestion, investigation and cultivation of orange seedlings. "Without Professor Zhou's full guidance and advancement, the government's determination will not be so great, and orange farmers cannot respond so quickly, let alone the current results."

The 8000-acre citrus product reform project covers 4 townships, including Xinwan Town and Nanzui Town. Zhou Yong has to go to the site of each product reform site to give instructions on the spot almost every day. He said, "At this time, he feels that his heart is closer to the land." (End)
