Mazda Production suspended from all domestic plants in Hiroshima and Yamaguchi today March 28 11:17

Due to the worldwide decline in demand for cars due to the spread of the new coronavirus, Mazda, a car manufacturer, temporarily stopped production at all domestic plants in Hiroshima and Yamaguchi Prefectures on March 28.

The two plants that have stopped operating are the headquarters factory in Hiroshima City and Fuchu Town in Hiroshima Prefecture and the Hofu Factory in Hofu City in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

On the morning of the 28th, employees who had completed night shifts at the headquarters factory expressed concerns about their concerns.

An employee man said, "I can't help stopping. I want the impact to stop as soon as possible." An employee of a subcontractor that supplies parts said, "I'm worried that prolonged factory shutdowns will affect my life."

These two factories produce about 1 million vehicles annually, and export 80% of them, but worldwide demand for automobiles has dropped sharply due to the spread of new coronavirus infections.

For this reason, Mazda will suspend operation of the plant for 13 days from the 28th to the end of next month, and stop production at night for eight days to adjust production.

Among automakers, Mitsubishi Motors also temporarily suspended production of mini cars at its plant in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture from the 27th, and Toyota and other companies have decided to suspend operations at some plants. The effects of expansion are spreading.
