Weak revenue growth of the three major operators

The financial report shows that in 2019, China Mobile's revenue was 745.917 billion yuan, an increase of 1.2% year-on-year; net profit was 106.641 billion yuan, a decrease of 9.5% year-on-year.

China Telecom's 2019 revenue was 375.734 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.4%; net profit was 20.517 billion yuan, a 3.3% year-on-year decrease. China Unicom's revenue was 290.877 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.1%; net profit was 11.330 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.1%.

According to calculations, in 2019, the three major operators have revenues of 1,142.528 billion yuan, net profit of 138.488 billion yuan, and an average daily profit of about 379 million yuan. This number is no match for 2019, when the three major operators made an average of 409 million yuan a day.

Especially China Mobile, net profit narrowed sharply. Yang Jie, chairman of China Mobile, said that in 2019, inter-industry and cross-border competition will continue to intensify, and the company will be affected by policy factors such as the severe and complex operating environment and the continuous advancement of "speed-up and fee reduction" of the network.

China Unicom also pointed out in its financial report that in 2019, the domestic communications industry entered a period of pain, revenue growth was weak, and the value of the industry was under pressure.

The number of subscribers of the three major operators has rarely decreased in the first two months

In terms of subscribers, as of the end of 2019, China Mobile had 950 million subscribers, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%, of which 4G subscribers were 758 million, a year-on-year increase of 6.4%.

China Unicom has 318 million users, of which 254 million are 4G users, accounting for 80% of the total number of users. China Telecom has 336 million subscribers, and 4G subscribers account for 83.8%.

Recently, the three major operators also released user data as of the end of February. China Mobile had 942 million subscribers, China Unicom had 310 million subscribers, and China Telecom had 330 million subscribers. By comparison, it is not difficult to find that from January to February, the number of subscribers of the three major operators has decreased, causing market debate.

Telecom industry analyst Fu Liang said that the decrease in mobile subscribers was the result of operators reducing marketing efforts for new subscribers in the past few months, and users discarding part of their numbers after the implementation of number portability, which has nothing to do with the epidemic. A large part of them have been transferred to 5G package users.

The latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that as of the end of February, the total number of mobile phone users of the three major operators reached 1.58 billion, which was basically the same as the same period of the previous year.

It is not difficult to see that the usage of mobile Internet traffic is still growing rapidly. The latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that as of the end of February, the monthly average user traffic value reached a new high, reaching 8.88GB in February, an increase of 45.5% year-on-year, and an increase of 0.29GB compared to the end of 2019.

In addition, it is worth noting that data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also shows that as of the end of February, the three major operators have developed cellular IoT end users to reach 1.04 billion, a net increase of 15.54 million over the end of 2019. With the enrichment of terminal applications, this traffic may also grow rapidly in the future. (Finish)
