The Christeyns company based in Vertou near Nantes produces hydroalcoholic gel in drums - Christeyns

  • Christeyns makes every effort to produce around 100,000 liters of hydroalcoholic gel per week.
  • It operates 24 hours a day and with around twenty temporary helpers recruited for the occasion.

By large bottles, or even squarely by cans. For several days, hydroalcoholic gel has been flowing afloat, and day and night, in Vertou near Nantes. With the coronavirus epidemic gaining ground in France, the disinfection product company Christeyns, number 2 on the market, is living at an infernal rate. “Normally, we produce between 10 and 11,000 liters of gel per week in 500 ml or 1L bottles, reports Peter de Grove, the CEO of Christeyns France. By operating 24 hours a day, we have already managed to increase to 40,000 liters, by increasing the containers. And as of next week, we're going up to 100,000 liters. ”

To achieve this objective, the company which supplies "several thousand health establishments in France" had to completely overhaul its organization. First, it transferred its detergent or other disinfectant production activities to its other factories in Europe. Above all, it has strengthened its team, usually made up of around fifty people, thanks to the hiring of around twenty temporary workers.

Staff difficult to recruit, given the circumstances. “To convince them to join us, we insist on the societal role that we have to play in this crisis, insists Peter de Grove. We have obviously put measures in place to protect them: they wear masks, all the spaces are constantly cleaned. We are fully mobilized to win this war against the virus. "

Rub your hands 80 times a day

The director hopes that thanks to this ramp-up, the gel requirements for hospitals can be met. Because even if pharmacies have been authorized to manufacture them for individuals, health professionals consume huge quantities. "Some staff rub their hands with up to 80 times a day," says Peter de Grove. Our gel, which has good skin tolerance, is effective in 15 seconds. To put it simply, alcohol works by attacking the envelope of the virus, which is made up of lipids. ”

Confident, the director of Christeyns said he could continue at this pace for several weeks. The company is not afraid of a shortage of raw materials, especially ethanol, since it indicates that it has already mobilized new suppliers, so as not to miss anything.
