Emirates Cooperative Society and "Union Cooperative" today announced the implementation of initiatives in their outlets across Dubai to sterilize shopping carts after each use, in addition to publishing sterilization packages for shoppers for free use at the outlets, as part of precautionary measures to protect shoppers from the transmission of any infection.

The General Manager of the Emirates Cooperative Society, Mohammed Youssef Al Khaja, stated that "the association’s management has already started effective from the beginning of this week in implementing precautionary initiatives in its various outlets in Dubai, to sterilize the shopping carts after each use using various disinfectants."

He pointed out that "the association's administration is currently placing within the comprehensive initiatives in the ports scanning and temperature detection devices at the entry points for workers and supply company officials to monitor any temperature increases or any pathological manifestations."

He added that "the administration has put bottles for sterilization fluids at the entrances and exits of the sales outlets so that they can be used free of charge for shoppers, in addition to placing sterilization packages for periodic use near all employees." Employees are obliged to report any symptoms, with isolation rooms being allocated to housing for any worker upon his return from travel, pending confirmation of his safety.

In turn, Suhail Al Bastaki, Director of Marketing and Happiness at “Union Coop” said, “The Cooperative Department is currently implementing an initiative to sterilize the handles of shopping carts through dedicated workers at the cooperative’s outlets in the Dubai market, before and after any use, in addition to the deployment of devices for liquids Sterilization in various parts of the cooperative's branches so that marketers can use it for free to continuously sterilize their hands, as part of precautionary measures to provide additional protection to consumers when shopping. "
