The German Lufthansa Group announced today, Friday, its intention to cancel approximately 7100 flights in Europe until the end of March, due to weak demand and the spread of the Corona virus emerging (Covid 19).
The group, which includes Lufthansa Airlines and Swiss, and Austrian Airlines, canceled all its flights to one of the countries yesterday from next Sunday until March 28.
Lufthansa also decided last week to cancel its flights from Germany to China until April 24, and will continue to cancel the connecting flights to Tehran until April 30.
Lufthansa has reduced the frequency of its flights to Hong Kong and Seoul, South Korea. The flights between Munich and Hong Kong will be frozen from March 6 to April 24. Alternate flights can be booked via Frankfurt and Zurich if available during that time.
From March 5 to April 24, flights from Frankfurt and Munich to Seoul will be reduced.
Lufthansa also announced further measures to cut expenditures in personnel, mission and project budgets.
The group has stated that it is not yet able to determine the impact of current events on its returns. It stated that it will announce its financial results on March 19.
