Data for the British "STR" Foundation specializing in hotel consultancy showed that Dubai will be the first in the world in terms of the number of new hotel rooms that will open this year, expecting the hotel market in the emirate to witness the opening of more than 23,682 thousand new rooms in 2020. It constitutes about 19.2% of the available supply of rooms now.

The data indicated that Dubai acquires more than 31.5% of the total new rooms that will open this year in the Middle East and Africa regions, indicating that the two regions will jointly witness the opening of about 74.7 thousand rooms, constituting 7.8% of the available supply of hotel rooms currently in service.

According to data dating back to the end of February, the new supply of rooms will put Dubai at the forefront of tourist destinations around the world in terms of new rooms, outperforming cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Shanghai and Bangkok, as well as London, Frankfurt, Munich, and other major cities.

This year, the US market will witness the opening of 143,000 hotel rooms, compared to 209,000 rooms in the Asia Pacific region and 116,000 rooms in the European market.
