Panasonic withdraws from Japan's third largest vending machine production Unexpected future growth February 28 22:58

Panasonic manufactures vending machines, but has decided to withdraw from the business because it has no prospects for future growth.

Panasonic has been producing beverage vending machines mainly since 1969, and boasts a high market share in the domestic third place in terms of sales.

Since 2015, we have been shifting production to a factory in Gunma Prefecture that handles commercial refrigerators to increase efficiency.

However, the vending machine business is facing intense competition from coffee, where the main product, canned coffee, is sold at convenience stores, in addition to declining population.

It has also been under attack by supermarkets and drug stores that sell beverages at low prices.

As a result, Panasonic decided to suspend production of vending machines and withdrew from the business shortly after saying that future growth was not expected.

Approximately 130 employees involved in development and manufacturing will be relocated to maintain employment.

Panasonic is successively withdrawing from or shrinking from unprofitable businesses such as the LCD panel and semiconductor businesses.
