• Justice: The National Court grants 12 days of prison permission to Rodrigo Rato

Former Vice President of the Government Rodrigo Rato has left this Friday at noon in the Madrid prison of Soto del Real, where he has been admitted since October 2018 in the case of the black cards of Caja Madrid, to enjoy his first prison permit from six days.

Although he still does not obtain "semi-freedom", despite having served more than a quarter of his sentence, the prison granted Rato a permit to leave the center for twelve days, in two periods of six.

This noon, at 12 noon, Rato left the prison to start enjoying the first block of six days, according to Efe sources close to what was also former IMF managing director.

The penitentiary surveillance judge of the National Court gave the green light ten days ago to the first prison release of the former popular leader, although he ruled against the progression of Rato to the third penitentiary degree, as Fernando Lázaro reported.

For the approval of the permits, the judge already had the endorsement of the Treatment Board of the prison, which, in his report, valued positive behavior in the prison. Rato has been in prison for more than 16 months, which is a quarter of the sentence he was sentenced to, at which point under prison law he can begin to enjoy permits if there are no reports against him.

The judge understands that there is no risk of escape and that his behavior in prison has given no reason why he can no longer enjoy the first permits. Likewise, it indicates family roots as a positive element also to be taken into account to grant these permits.
