Dozens of flights were canceled or delayed on Sunday at Heathrow Airport in London due to an IT failure at check-in systems and departure boards, reports The Guardian . Travelers can still experience disruption on Monday.

British Airways, the largest airline at the airport, is said to have canceled 20 flights. Other airlines also kept planes on the ground. These cancellations were the result of the outage and storm Dennis who raged in the UK on Sunday.

Multiple passengers would have received push notifications about the 2019 coronavirus via the Heathrow mobile app. The airport has not yet stated whether these messages were sent by mistake due to the technical malfunction.

On Sunday evening the airport announced that the malfunction had been resolved. The airport also said it would strive to have all flights depart on schedule according to schedule. However, some airlines may still be affected by the failure in combination with a possible disruption due to storm Dennis.

Heathrow is the busiest airport in Europe. A spokesperson apologized on behalf of the airport for the disruption.

Today's technical issue has now been resolved and Heathrow's systems are returning to normal. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Our teams will continue to monitor our systems and provide assistance to passengers as we work to resume our regular operations.
