With 48 hours of the start of the examination of the pension reform in plenary session, Monday, the government decided to review its copy to strengthen the rights of women. Statistical studies have indeed shown that it is they who, in the couple, suffer a loss of income when a child arrives. Amendments were tabled on Friday to correct this situation.

Half of the increase reserved for the mother
In the initial bill, it was provided that the birth of a child - from the first one - gives the right to an increase of 5% of the points acquired at the time of retirement, with even a small additional bonus of 2% if the family has at least three children. This increase of 5% was attributed by default to the mother, but could be shared between the parents.
The novelty is that the mother will have the assurance of having at least half of the 5%. And it is only the other half that can be shared between the parents, knowing that if there is no sharing, it will automatically revert to the mother. In this case, she will have the 5% for herself.

New for the survivor's pension
Another amendment concerns the survivor's pension. We know the rule provided for in the reform: when one of the two spouses dies, the surviving spouse is guaranteed to receive 70% of the total received by the couple before death. But nothing was planned in the case where the husband had been married for the first time, for the first wife. This situation is corrected: the second woman will always receive the 70% of the couple's income, but the first woman will receive 55% of the deceased husband's pension, in proportion to the number of years she has been married to him.
