Harugi Electric union submits request form February 13 18:33 seeking monthly wage increase of 3,000 yen

In this spring fight, the union of a major electronics manufacturer has submitted a request to the management side for a wage increase of 3,000 yen per month. With the spread of the new coronavirus becoming more uncertain about the future of the global economy, the focus will be on how far management can respond.

At the head office of Hitachi, Ltd., located in Tokyo, Tatsuya Sakamoto, the labor union's central executive chairman, submitted a request to the management side for a wage increase of ¥ 3,000 per month.

"We would like to respond sincerely in future negotiations," said Hidenobu Nakahata, General Manager of Human Resources, Hitachi, who received the request.

In this spring fight, the electric union created by the union of electric manufacturers has set unified requirements for raising wages of more than 3,000 yen, same as last year, and Toshiba and NEC also demanded the same level.

As uncertainty about the future of the global economy increases due to the spread of the new coronavirus and other factors, the focus is on how much management will respond to in future negotiations.

Some manufacturers are discussing a review of Japanese-style employment practices, such as expanding “job-type employment,” which promises students with highly specialized abilities to be assigned to departments that match the abilities.

This spring fight will be negotiated for the intensive response date next month.
