The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has confirmed that there are currently no fees for operators in the sector, namely “Etisalat” and “du”, regarding the use of the necessary frequencies for the fifth-generation mobile network.

In a press statement on the sidelines of the fifth session of the Middle East and North Africa Spectrum Conference held in Abu Dhabi yesterday, the authority’s deputy general manager, Majid Sultan Al-Mesmar, said that the authority decided to postpone the fees due to use the frequencies for the past and current years, to start Collecting fees from operators as of next year, indicating that the fees to be collected are simple and 50% less than the average global fees for the frequency spectrum.

The nail added that the policy of "organizing communications" is based on the failure of operators to overburden the high fees, especially that the high fees will be reflected in the increase in the prices of services provided to consumers, in addition to that it will lead to a lack of service spread, while the authority aims to facilitate the service and make it available to different consumers and government agencies at reasonable prices, and work On the speed of transition to a strong digital economy, pointing out that the fifth generation network is a new network and offers huge potentials, and needs huge long-term investments.

He stated that the frequencies of the fifth generation are currently ready, but the manufacturers of the devices are not fully prepared, pointing out that the UAE, which chairs the Arab spectrum team, is currently looking to provide the frequencies that will be needed in the coming years to increase the frequencies of the fifth generation.

He emphasized that the telecommunications infrastructure, especially the fifth-generation infrastructure, is completely ready in the site of the Expo 2020 Dubai exhibition, and that all communications services needed by the "Expo", on top of which are the fifth generation services for various devices, are already available in the entire exhibition space.
