“Recently, we revealed circumstances about the role of Gazprom in operations with RosUkrEnergo debt obligations, for which Naftogaz suffered significant losses ... Now we are studying the capabilities of Naftogaz to solve these problems, among them the following can be distinguished ... International arbitration in Stockholm by the contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom for the transfer of RosUkrEnergo debt obligations, ”Vitrenko wrote on his Facebook page.

He noted that, of course, it is better to solve all problematic issues without lawsuits.

“Therefore, we plan to first try to discuss these issues with Gazprom. If we don’t find a common language, we will turn to the political leadership of the state to reach agreements at the interstate level, ”Vitrenko added.

According to RIA Novosti, in 2004-2009, RosUkrEnergo acted as an intermediary between Ukraine and Russia in the supply of gas.

In 2009, the company was eliminated from mediation, and a new gas supply contract was concluded directly between Naftogaz and Gazprom.

At the same time, RosUkrEnergo owed Gazprom $ 1.7 billion for gas supplies. As a result, Gazprom sold this debt to Naftogaz, due to which Naftogaz confiscated 11 billion cubic meters of RosUkrEnergo gas that were stored in Ukrainian underground storage facilities.

At the end of 2019, Russia and Ukraine signed a gas transit agreement, and also agreed to resolve mutual claims.

Thus, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine withdrew claims to Gazprom in the amount of about $ 7.4 billion, and the Russian company paid about $ 2.9 billion according to decisions of the Stockholm Arbitration Court.

The Ukrainian side also pledged to lift all arrests on Gazprom’s property, assets and funds.

In January 2020, it became known that the seizure of Gazprom’s assets in Naftogaz’s lawsuits in the UK, Luxembourg and the Netherlands was lifted.
