Dubai Ports World Group announced that it is in the process of finalizing the final details related to the construction agreements for a new port and economic zone in Dakar, after receiving Senegalese President, Macky Sall, Chairman and CEO of Dubai Ports World Group, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

"DP World" indicated that the project will support Senegal's economic growth by transforming "Dakar" into a major logistical center and gateway to West and Northwest Africa.

Economic zone

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: "The details of the Dakar Economic Zone project and its impact on supporting ambitious economic trends for Senegal and enhancing opportunities for trade flows have been reviewed, with the project providing a distinct point of collection for the goods, and the value it will represent as a major center for African exporters and suppliers."

He added, “The meeting with President Maki Sall reviewed the great progress achieved by the Senegalese economy and the role that (DP World) can contribute to supporting the major economic goals there by developing a port and an economic region that exceeds its positive impact to serve the West and Northwest Africa region. It strengthens the strong economic ties between the UAE and Senegal, and contributes to raising the level of Senegal’s participation in supporting trade in the West African region. ”

Port de Futur

Dubai World Ports had prepared a master plan for the development of the De Futur port, which would become a multi-purpose port that includes economic and logistical areas adjacent to the Blaise Diagne International Airport.

"DP World" will be responsible for developing the initial stages of the port, as it has built an advanced container terminal in the northwest region, capable of handling the largest container ships.

The port development will also allow the generation of shipments, the free movement of goods to support the "Emerging Senegal Plan", freeing the potential of trade to achieve economic diversification, and promoting exports from non-natural resources.

The port will support Senegal's position as a commercial and investment hub in West Africa, and will help attract new foreign investment to the country.
