Hundreds of Amazon employees Monday made a name for themselves and criticized the company's climate policy through a blog post on Medium.com . Because everyone has to promise that they will not bring things out at the start of employment, the employees risk their jobs.
The group calls itself Amazon Employees for Climate Justice. In the blog post that they published, there is a compilation of personal critical statements, signed by the people whose quotes are. At the bottom are hundreds of names of employees who support the message.
"At Amazon, I work with great people every day on great projects, but I'm bogged down by the fact that Amazon works with the oil and gas industry despite climate promises. We have to be climate leaders, not delayers," one of them writes. In terms of message, the quote is similar to that of colleagues: the company must turn their back on the fossil industry and make climate policy a priority.
Moreover, the goal of operating CO2 neutral by 2040 would not be ambitious enough. A company like Microsoft, for example, wants to no longer emit carbon dioxide ten years earlier.
The activist employees state that Amazon sent a letter to members of the group earlier in January, in which the company threatened with dismissal for the people who continue to turn to the media. Some quotes also refer to this. Several employees call it dangerous and reprehensible that the company is trying to silence people.
