Regulated gas sales prices, applied by Engie to millions of French households, will drop 3.3% on February 1, the Energy Regulatory Commission (Cre) announced on Friday. Compared to the scale in force since January 1, these rates will drop "by 0.9% for customers who use gas for cooking, by 2% for those who have dual use, cooking and hot water, and by 3 .5% for homes that heat with gas, "said a statement.

This change results from the application of a tariff formula defined in mid-2019. In total, since January 1, 2019, these regulated gas sales tariffs (TRV) have experienced a cumulative drop of 14.7%, specifies CRE.

Gradual end of regulated tariffs

The Energy and Climate Law promulgated in November provides for the gradual extinction by 2023 of these gas TRVs, which are set by the public authorities and had been deemed contrary to European law by the Council of State. In the future, there will only be so-called market offers, at prices freely set by the suppliers.

Around 4 million individuals still have a gas contract at the TRVs. But since November 20, Engie has stopped marketing new contracts of this type.
