Regulated electricity prices should soon increase by 2.4% for individuals and small professionals, we learned this Monday from concordant sources.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has proposed this 2.4% tax increase "for blue residential tariffs" as well as "for blue tariffs applicable to eligible professional consumers", according to a draft decision sent for opinion to the Higher Energy Council (CSE) and consulted by AFP.

21 euros extra per year on average

This increase must come into effect on February 1 if the government - which has three months to implement it - chooses to apply it immediately. "This increase represents 21 euros per year on average on the bill of a residential consumer," says the text.

The rise in electricity prices reflects in particular “the increase in the cost of supply” on the markets, but also “the taking into account of the two-year catch-up of the difference between costs and prices during the financial year 2019 ”.

An application by the summer?

Last year, in the midst of the "yellow vests" crisis, the government had indeed delayed and frozen prices during the winter. The sharp increase of 5.9% proposed by CRE in February 2019 was therefore only applied on June 1.

Regulated sales prices (TRV) are offered by EDF, the historic player in the sector, as well as by local distribution companies in certain regions.
