After months of relative calm, Yemen has returned to violence. At least 70 pro-government soldiers were killed in an attack attributed to the Houthis. But these rebel rebels who control Sanaa, the capital, did not claim this offensive.

It was a double strike that targeted, Saturday, January 18, the mosque of the Marib military camp. This city where pro-government forces are positioned is located 120 km east of Sanaa, the capital. A rocket and then an armed drone were said to have struck this mosque, where several dozen soldiers were gathered.

Decline in military activities

This week again, the United Nations envoy to Yemen , Martin Griffiths, was delighted with the calm that reigned in the country. It is true that several fronts remain active. But this start to the year was marked by a drop in military activities on the ground.

Houthi rebels regularly give details of their armed operations through their television channel. But for the moment they are not claiming any attack in the Marib region. They are content only to denounce raids by the Saudi air force against civilians.

Saudi Arabia, in this conflict for five years

Engaged in this conflict for five years, Saudi Arabia supports pro-government forces in their war against the Houthis. For Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, this new attack attributed to the Houthis, confirms once again the destructive intentions of this militia supported by Iran.
