Some 166,000 candidates throughout Spain have conducted tests on Sunday to achieve one of the 4,005 fixed jobs in Correos , in the largest job offer called by this public company in the last decade.

This call has aroused the interest of a total of 166,348 people who registered to perform the tests that have taken place in 86 locations in 29 Spanish cities, although the actual number of applicants submitted will not be known until Monday.

The bulk of the jobs to be filled is to distribute on foot or motorized in the urban and rural areas (2,618 positions), while 725 are to be classified in the logistics centers and 662, to serve the customer in the offices.

The minimum base salary for the positions offered amounts to 16,651 euros gross per year , according to the salary tables set out in the collective agreement of the company.

The tests consist of an opposition contest, explained the director of the Post Office Zone 4 in Madrid, Domingo Sebastián Bello, so that a part of the mark is obtained in the exam, to which the points achieved in the phase are added contest, "taking into account the merits of each of the candidates."

In statements to the media, Bello has detailed that most of the jobs are full-time , while the provinces with the most registered applicants are Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

"Improve service provision"

In Madrid, with quite cold and many nerves, they have been accessing the premises used in the University City to carry out the tests the applicants, some with more than two years of preparation and others with the intention of "trying their luck" to obtain "a fixed place of work ".

"It is not a complex agenda although you have to spend time," but "we are many people," said Efe Beatriz Artigues , a candidate who has alternated unemployment with some temporary jobs during the year and a half that has been preparing these tests.

Miguel Ángel Andrés , a gardener who comes for the first time and with five months of study, has explained that he wants "to be an official because it is the best job in Spain, a safe and fixed job", although he has considered that "the agenda is very long , very heavy, with meaningless questions for the position to play. "

Bello recalled that this exam seeks to "create stable employment in the Post Office, because we are convinced that job stability guarantees a better provision of the universal postal service", as well as a better structuring of the territory.

Correos has 2,396 offices throughout Spain and only in the first nine months of the year sent 162 million packages, 18% more than in the same period last year.

This offer of fixed employment is framed in the Multiannual Agreement 2018-2020 signed by CCOO, UGT, CSIF and Sindicato Libre , a pact that is already developed at 80% and contemplates the consolidation and replacement of 11,200 jobs.

15,000 jobs lost

CCOO, the majority union in Correos, have valued this call but have demanded that the Government complete the execution of this plan, to replace the 15,000 jobs in the public company lost during the crisis, and have urged it to negotiate a new agreement.

In a statement, they recalled that the places offered this Sunday add up to 2,295 of 2018 and 1,606 of 2017, totaling almost 8,000 new jobs to date, to which another 3,421 newly summoned last December will be added.

From CSIF, they have considered that this call is "the first step" to stop the temporality in the postal company, which is close to 30% of the workforce, while they have claimed speed to call the next job offer.

The jobs lost in the crisis have caused that there are work centers with more delivery sections than postmen or that there are public service offices with "low minimum" personnel, said a CSIF statement.
