Iran will have enriched enough uranium by the end of the year to have the equipment necessary to make nuclear weapons, according to Israel. Reuters

For Israel, Iran remains the main security threat. These are the conclusions of the military intelligence services which published their annual report on Tuesday 14 January. They warn in particular against the acceleration of the Iranian nuclear program. During the night, three Iranian fighters were killed on a Syrian military base. The strikes are attributed to Israel, which does not comment.

Iran, the main threat to Israel's security: the conclusion is not new and hardly debated in the country. Majority and opposition agree on the danger posed to them by the Islamic Republic. But according to army intelligence, certain parts of this threat are becoming clearer.

In their annual report published on Tuesday, January 14, they believe that Iran is progressing on its nuclear program. According to their estimates, Tehran currently has 850 kilos of 4% enriched uranium. The country could, they believe, have the necessary amount of uranium to make a bomb next fall, and thus begin enrichment at 20%. It's the industrial part of manufacturing that should take the most time, they say. But they consider it possible that Iran will have its first nuclear weapon within two years.

But Israeli military intelligence also believes that Iran is weakened. First of all by internal demonstrations , a factor likely to weigh on the implementation of the nuclear program, they judge. But also weakened by the assassination of Qassem Soleimani. In their eyes, the death of this general of the Guardians of the Revolution offers the possibility of fighting more effectively the Iranian presence in Syria, a few kilometers from the territory controlled by Israel.
