With the spread of the CSF, a so-called swine cholera, an epidemic of swine infectious diseases in Okinawa, a representative of an Okinawan agricultural organization called on the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Eto to vaccinate early and protect the specialty agu.

Agricultural officials from Okinawa Prefecture, including Tsutomu Oshiro, chairman of the JA Okinawa Central Association, visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on May 15 and handed the request to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Eto.

The request will ensure that the necessary amount of vaccine is available to minimize the impact on the pig farming industry so that it can be promptly inoculated, and that the original pigs that are responsible for breeding of the specialty pig Agu are not infected Strict protection is required.

In response, Minister Eto responded, "We want to be able to respond promptly to the protection of vaccinations and the isolation of Agu if requested by Okinawa Prefecture."
