Major supermarket US-Japan trade agreement takes effect, US beef price reduction sale January 8 at 14:30

As a new trade agreement between the United States and Japan has come into effect and tariffs on beef imported from the United States have been reduced, major supermarkets have begun price reduction sales of American beef.

A new trade agreement between the United States and Japan came into effect on the 1st of this month, reducing the tariff on beef imported from the United States from 38.5% to 26.6%.

In response, Ito-Yokado sells American beef at a discount of about 10% to 20%, a limited sale for 8 to 6 days.

The beef sold includes those imported last month before the tariff reduction, but from August 8, the beef imported after the reduction will start to appear in stores.

A 70-year-old male customer who visited a store in Koto-ku, Tokyo said, "I think taxes are high and it is good to be cheap because it is a pension life."

Yoshio Ichioka of the Ito-Yokado meat department says, "I want to let people know that the tariffs have fallen and feel the bargain, so that they can revitalize the sales area."

In addition, AEON Retail is planning to cut some US beef by about 10% from the 9th, and it is likely that price cuts for US beef will spread in the future.

Under a new trade agreement, tariffs on beef imported from the United States will be gradually reduced in the future, eventually falling to 9% in 2033.
