The Galician Government has announced the free school of children up to three years from the second child , a measure that will benefit 12,600 families in the community and will be effective from April 1.

The regional Executive will invest more than 14 million euros in 2020 for this initiative, which will be implemented in 173 public and 260 private schools and is a pioneer in Spain.

The Xunta will financially help private non-concerted schools that wish to adhere to the measure. Also to municipal women who want to offer free places to families from the second child. This will not pay childcare, nor successive.

This has been pointed out by the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who said that schools that want to join the initiative may not have debts with the Galician Consortium for Equality and Welfare Services.

Since 2016, families living in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants already have access to this free service in centers for babies, called nest houses.

Within the conciliation measures, the Xunta also values to extend the schedules of the children's public schools, "if there is demand".
