Two people died in a collision between a Tesla Model S and a Honda Civic this Sunday in Gardena, near Los Angeles (United States). Two other individuals were injured in the accident. The US highway safety agency (NHTSA) has launched an investigation, reports the Los Angeles Times .

The 2019 Tesla was coming out of a highway when it ran a red light. NHTSA took an interest in the accident site as well as the electric vehicle. In all, the authorities are currently investigating 13 accidents involving Tesla cars with the “autopilot” activated. This is the driving assistance system developed by the manufacturer.

Is the autopilot activated?

However, the NHTSA did not wish to specify whether the assisted driving program worked during the fatal collision on Sunday, December 29. The two deceased were on board the Honda, said the KTLA television channel quoted by CNBC. The two Tesla occupants were hospitalized, but their lives are not in danger.

Tesla recalls that its autopilot "allows the car to turn the wheel, accelerate and brake while staying in line" but does not constitute an autonomous vehicle system.
