French manufacturers are doing quite well. In 2019, the French automotive market grew in 2019, with an increase of 1.88% in new passenger car registrations, announced on Wednesday the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA) in raw data.

With 211,193 new registrations in December, a monthly leap of 27.7%, French motorists put a total of 2,214,278 new cars into service last year, the Committee said, adding that the month of December 2019 had a working day more than that of 2018.

A fruitful December

In December, French brands alone accounted for more than half of new registrations in France (106,415 passenger cars), an increase of 17.09% compared to December 2018, which allows the two large national manufacturers Renault and PSA to show an increase of 0.88% over the year.

Foreign cars posted a 40.6% jump in their registrations in December (104,778 units), which brings to 906,435 units the total number of cars put into service in the year (+ 3.22%).

Nevertheless, despite the catch-up at the end of the year, on the sharing of the cake between French and foreign manufacturers in 2019, the former saw their share regress slightly, to 56.81% against 57.37% at the end of 2018. Foreign manufacturers see their annual market share increase to 43.19% against 42.63% last year.
