“The German government welcomes the agreement concluded between Gazprom, Naftogaz and the Ukrainian gas transportation system operator on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine after January 1, 2020,” the statement said.

Earlier, the agreement was welcomed by the Vice President of the European Commission Marosh Shefchovich.

On December 31, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller announced that the company had signed a set of gas transit agreements and contracts with Ukraine.

In turn, Naftogaz said that these agreements remove numerous risks, in particular, for the financial system of Ukraine.
